Summary :
Found in a ice block at the North Pole during an expedition in Greenland, Paul Fournier, had been asleep for a good fifty years. Back home, his shocked and surprised family , does all it can to make him believe that he is still living at the beginning of the century, so as to prevent him suffering a fatal shock. Paul believes he is the descendant of a family of which , in reality, he is the ancestor. In the end he learns of the truth and declares himself to be delighted to living in modern times.

Scenery Act I : set
in present times, in a large house dating from the 19 century Act II and III : The same residence, the reconstruction of which takes us back to the Belle Epoque
