His statue in Quimper

Laennec was a doctor, (born Quimper, 1781 - died, Kerlouanec, Finistère, 1826).

He was the founder of clinical diagnostics … "the art of recognizing on the living, with precise signs from a physical examination, the pathological changes of profound organs".

Principally, he became famous thanks to his invention of the stethoscope.

In his "Traité de l'auscultation médicale", Laënnec, recommended the use of the stethoscope that he has just invented. At that time, the instrument was made of a simple accoustic tube put between doctor's ear and the patient's body.
