The story :

To finance her charitable organizations , Brigitte de Lénouville, a rich and beautiful widow,attracts crooks who have become rich dishonestly, in enticing them with marriage.

Once the unfortunate have proved their creditworthiness, she murders them coldly, letting her steward Lestrange, secretly in love with her, bury them under a clump of hydrangeas.
