Nicknamed Bluebeard, Count de Salfere attends his sixth wifes funerals. Once the funerals are over, he immediately decides to take a new wife. He chooses Aline, the innkeepers daughter of the village hes at the head of. The latter agrees willingly the lords decision, despite the warnings of Giglio, a young man in love with her Indeed, the Count is accused for having killed her former wives, which is publicly rumored by the population. The wedding takes place in great pomp, and the very night of it, the Count falls asleep without consummating his marriage with Aline. According to customs, the next day, the Count takes part to a hunting-party . Aline takes advantage of her husbands absence to take a mysterious golden key which makes her reach a secret underground...
